Ok. I'll go first. I take truth.

Ok. Wait, where's my mom?
Maybe she can play with us when she gets home.
Your mom? Oh, thats a tough one. Well, I guess I have to tell the truth. Your mom had a trerrible accident 16 years ago.

What? But I'm nine! That was before I was born! And my mom comes home every night at six!
Oh, that lady? Yeah, she's not your mom. She just pretends to be your mom until you go to bed.

Not my mom?!?
Yeah, the accident was a little sudden... that's the reason we go to the zoo every year... even though I hate the polar bears.

Why the zoo? Does she work there?
No... well.. almost. She lives in the giraffe pen year round. The accident was... pretty unusual. Cassandra, your mom is a giraffe.

Oh, yes it is. We only called you Sam because your Dad thought it was a good name for a gerbil... and he's allergic to those.

No. Well, not really. You kind of have two dads. They switch off every year, so one can have a break. I'm surprised you never noticed.
